This was discussed at the recent literacy meeting and I wanted to highlight how useful I have found my “word of the week” board in my room. I sometimes use it for scientific words but more often for interesting words which come up in class conversations. My register group often suggest a word and students regularly ask about it and what it means. This week the word is ectoplasm because one of my biology class asked if cytoplasm was the same as ectoplasm. This produced some good class discussion. Anything which stimulates an interest in words and their use is always worth it.
